Maison Martin Margiela SS2007 Runway Red Accent Deconstructed Draped Dress
From Maison Martin Margiela's Spring/Summer 2007 collection, during Martin Margiela's tenure at the house. This black dress explores asymmetry and deconstruction through an exaggerated draped panel extending from the left shoulder across the back. A small, rounded red shoulder insert interrupts the otherwise monochromatic silhouette, introducing a subtle yet distinctive contrast.
The oversized drape creates a fluid, cape-like extension that moves independently of the fitted lower portion. An opening on the right side of the back reveals the underlying construction, while the arms can either remain concealed beneath the draping or emerge through its openings, allowing different interpretations of the silhouette. Crafted from stretch rayon, the dress balances a close-fitting foundation with a dramatically oversized exterior. A design closely related to Look 15 from the SS2007 runway collection.
