tricot COMME des GARÇONS Mid-1980s Structured Blazer with Gathered Oversized Pockets
An early tricot COMME des GARÇONS blazer from the mid-1980s, featuring the pronounced shoulders and structured tailoring characteristic of the decade. The silhouette is defined by broad, angular shoulders and a fitted waist, creating a distinctive contrast in proportion.
Its most notable feature is the pair of oversized pockets extending from the front waist around to the back. Elasticated openings gather the fabric along the sides, drawing the waist inward while introducing soft, sculptural volume to the otherwise sharply tailored construction. Two removable shoulder pads further accentuate the architectural silhouette. A particularly interesting example of Rei Kawakubo's early exploration of tailoring, volume, and proportion.
