From Y's Autumn/Winter 1999 collection, this sleeveless dress combines a clean, understated silhouette with delicate fabric contrasts and an intricate draped construction.
The upper bodice is made from a soft cotton and rayon blend, while the skirt is constructed from two layers of lightweight nylon mesh. At the front, a rectangular panel of mesh is folded and secured with buttons, creating four layers of fabric and a softly cascading drape around the waist. The back retains its original two-layer construction, offering a subtle sheerness and a beautifully restrained silhouette.
The interplay of transparency, layering, and carefully placed buttons gives the dress a quietly romantic, almost classical character. Particularly beautiful is the contrast between the sculptural draping at the front and the clean, uninterrupted lines at the back.
